The core focus of the Energy Systems and Market Design Lab lies in exploring the global digital transformation, the growing significance of artificial intelligence, and the evolving social dynamics fostered by the era of social media.
The lab develops models to analyze current energy policy issues, investigates information processing in social networks using a behavioral economics and model-based approach, and provides science-based advice to political actors. In our research projects, we rely on collaborations with partners from academia and industry. Some current focuses of our work include:

• Development of multilevel equilibrium models for the analysis of electricity, gas, and hydrogen systems and markets.
• Development of mathematical methods for solving mixed-integer and nonlinear multistage optimization problems for energy markets.
• Sector coupling electricity/gas/hydrogen: Model development, potentials, and market design.
• Market-based bottleneck management and regional price signals in the electricity market.
• The impact of social identity on learning in social networks.
• The significance of social media for recruitment decisions.
