Veronika Grimm, Professor of Energy Systems and Market Design at the University of Technology Nuremberg and a member of the German Council of Economic Experts since 2020, is one of the most influential economists in Germany according to the latest economist ranking by Media Tenor. She ranks second in both the media presence and politics categories, the latter in particular due to her influence via political advisory bodies.
The ranking, which was compiled by Media Tenor on behalf of the Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft (INSM), assesses the influence of economists in leading German media using a weighted points system. The decisive criteria for the evaluation are scientific relevance, media presence, politics with influence via political advisory bodies, and social media activity.
The ranking covers the period from July 2023 to June 2024 and shows the extent to which economists influence the public debate in Germany with their academic analyses and contributions.
In the overall ranking, Veronika Grimm took fourth place behind Clemens Fuest, Daron Acemoğlu and Marcel Fratzscher. In the categories of media presence and politics she ranks second in each, with her influence through political advisory committees being particularly decisive in the politics category. Her expertise is particularly in demand in the areas of energy, climate and the environment, but also on general economic and socio-political issues, where she is ranked first and second respectively.
