Bavaria’s Minister of Science Bernd Sibler on the approval granted by the Budget Committee: “The establishment of the University of Technology Nuremberg is progressing every day” – “We are ready to set new standards also regarding the civil infrastructure”
MUNICH. Today, the Budget Committee of the Bavarian Parliament approved the construction site preparation for the first building of the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) on the new campus on Brunecker Straße. Thus, construction of the first so-called multi-use building can be prepared still this year. “The establishment of UTN is progressing every day – on an employment, structural and construction level. With the start of the construction work on the multi-use building, this will soon become clearly visible on the future campus site. We are ready to set new standards with UTN also regarding the civil infrastructure. Our plan is to create an excellent environment for future-oriented teaching and research”, according to Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Bernd Sibler.
Bavaria’s Construction Minister Kerstin Schreyer is pleased with the approval of budgets for construction site preparation: “I am happy that the construction of the future campus for the University of Technology Nuremberg can now commence! The multi-use building will be the first building for the founding members of the University of Technology Nuremberg on the site of the former southern railway station. We now have the necessary funds to prepare the site for construction work. The first steps will be taken as early as summer.”
“With the construction of its tenth university, the State of Bavaria is the driving force for the metropolitan region Nuremberg as regards investments and innovation. The new university promises to boost the academic and market position of Frankonia. Our investments enable even more top-level research, teaching and development in all of Bavaria – having a wider impact outside of Bavaria. We want to offer the best possibilities to the brightest minds. This, to us, is an active and sustainable policy to serve our people”, according to Bavaria’s Minister for Finance and Home Affairs, Albert Füracker.
Construction site preparation includes measures preceding the construction start of the building itself, e.g. land development. The official groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction work is scheduled for summer 2021 – only about eight months after the foundation of the tenth state-run university in Bavaria. The multi-use building, which will be the first building on the new campus, is to house the Executive Board and the administration staff with a total of 120 persons. In the meantime, Founding President Prof. Dr. Hans Jürgen Prömel, Kanzler Dr. Markus Zanner and the continuously growing team will consistently work on setting up the University of Technology Nuremberg in their preliminary office building The Plant in Ulmenstraße.
